What does this link really answer?

Paste a short link. We follow it hop by hop and show each status code, where it points and the cache header it sends, then answer the two questions that matter: is every click counted, and can the destination still be changed?

Try:

Our server visits the link and each address it forwards to (public addresses only, up to 10 hops). We don't save the link or the result.

How to read the answer

  • 301 and 308 mean “moved for good”. Browsers may store them, so a second click from the same browser can skip the short link: that click isn't counted, and a changed destination doesn't reach that browser.
  • 302, 303 and 307 mean “over there, for now”. They aren't stored unless the cache header says so, so every click comes back to the short link.
  • Cache-Control overrides both: no-store keeps even a 301 from being stored, and max-age=86400 lets a browser reuse even a 302 for a day.

The longer story, with what eight big link services send, is in 301 or 302: which redirect a short link should use. Every b59.link short link answers with a 302 and no cache header, so each click is counted and you can change where it points.
